To arrive at a thorough understanding of the client and Company specifications and to fully define the Systems Integration scope of works for the Project.
To check and approve, in accordance with British Standards (or others of a similar standing as necessary), Client and Company standards, the contract specification (Works Information), the process and instrumentation diagrams and, where appropriate, other documentation relating to the Systems Integration sub-contract.
To be responsible for the production of the User Requirement specification, and any other documentation required to facilitate the Systems Integration sub-contract always bearing in mind the requirements of and the effects on, other engineering disciplines.
To identify and properly document and notify to the project team all variations to and deviations from the handover documentation/specification. To identify any risks and/or opportunities arising that may impact the project.
To prepare and approve enquiries for equipment, materials and services for submission to commercial team members, to assess the technical content of returned quotations to check and approve subcontracts and orders prepared by the commercial team for technical correctness, to respond to technical queries raised by vendors and, where appropriate, carry out inspections and tests during and on completion of manufacture, and at site.
To manage agreed own and allocated manpower resources such that effort is efficiently spent in the design and procurement of the ICA scope of works, all within budget and to programme.
To communicate fully with the Project Manager/Design manager Engineer / Project Engineers, and other members of the team, other departments and sections of the Company, the Client, Vendors and Subcontractors on matters relating to the project.
To assist the commissioning manager and staff in production of the Commissioning Plan (and associated documentation), the on-site commissioning of ICA systems and the training of Client operatives in the use of installed systems.
To assist in the production and maintenance of the project programme.
To contribute to the preparation of operation and maintenance manuals.
To follow the project through from design to pre-commissioning and commissioning on site. Generally it is expected that the time taken for design in the office and for commissioning on site will be in the order of 65% to 35% respectively. Whilst on site, the Principal Systems Engineer will be required to work site hours (normally 10 hours per day), and under site conditions. It is also a requirement for the Principal Systems Engineer to work on other sites where he/she may not have been involved in the design, such as modifications to an existing control system, again whilst on site, site hours and site working conditions apply.
To comply with all Health and Safety responsibilities commensurate with the role, as outlined in the company’s Health and Safety policy
