Job Description


As a Senior Quantity Surveyor (SQS) you will be a key member of the commercial team supporting the Project Quantity Surveyor (PQS) in leading the commercial department on site delivering projects between £5m to £100m. The role requires a good degree of commercial management, financial and contractual experience, with the ability to exercise independent judgment where appropriate, and an ability to work successfully with other team members so as to ensure the project objectives and targets are met.

We are seeking an individual for a SQS with Mechanical and Electrical experience to administer the M+E Subcontract Works on the Site in South East

Successful applicants should be MRICS / CICES accredited or approaching accreditation and be in a position to demonstrate a level of experience that adds value to the other members of the team based on Site

Within the project


The M+E SQS provides the essential support and back up to the PQS who bears the responsibility for the timely completion of all commercial and legal tasks in line with deadline, cost and quality requirements on complex turnkey projects or a number of parallel-running system projects. The SQS under the supervision of the PQS will assist the PQS in undertaking the following duties:

    Support for the Project Manager in relation to all commercial and contractual issues;
    Drafting of contractual correspondence to the Client, Subcontractors, Designers and Suppliers;
    Provide supervision and mentoring of Junior Quantity Surveyors appointed to the project;
    Identify training needs for any Junior Quantity Surveyors appointed to the project;
    Partake in the execution of project according existing guidelines and internal processes;
    Preparation of Sub-contract documentation and commercial administration of the M+E work packages;
    Assist in compliance with fiscal, commercial-law and in-house commercial regulations;
    Drawing up the order receipt, concurrent and final costing calculations;
    Commercial management of company assets;
    Monitoring of costs and ensuring the costs are assigned correctly to the cost monitor report;
    Preparation of and timely submission of applications for payment under the contract and their tracking;
    Preparation of and timely submission of applications for claims for Extensions of Time and
Additional Payment under the contract and their tracking;
    Provide assistance in the negotiation of Change Orders / Variations and/or Claims
    In conjunction with the Project Manager provide regular project reports on a monthly basis; 
    In conjunction with the Project Manager provide input into the project completion report including an identification of the lessons learned with feedback to the Business Unit; and
    Assist in the development of customer relationships

Areas of Responsibility – The SQS will support the PQS in the following areas

    Management and administration of M+E sub-contract Work Packages
    Assist in the Maintenance of the Project Risk register
    Formulating claims for time and or money and defending the business against unjustified claims;
    Assist in agreeing contractual changes with regard to the scope of delivery and services, prices, deadlines or other contractual agreements;
    Identify and financially assess opportunities and risks;
    In conjunction with the Project Manager defining and implementing suitable measures for reducing risks or realizing opportunities;
    Preparation of detailed information for periodic meetings (internal & external) and participation in the meetings;
    Updating of contract files, lists, information, schedules etc. necessary to follow up the work in a professional manner;
    Abide by and comply with the company’s Compliance and Business Conduct Guidelines; and
    Work and act as a company team-player.


Essential Experience


     Successful applicants should be a member of the RICS or the CICES or approaching membership status;
     5 years of post graduation experience with a track record of delivery of M+E installations in relation to  the construction of on-shore electrical substations;
     Be flexible in relation to travel;
     Have some experience of working with / in multi-national teams.
