Job Description

Permanent position (full-time)


  1. Take the Design Lead on EHV projects.

  2. Be conversant with under-ground buried cable design from 11kV through 400kV.

  3. Be conversant with cable types, applications & limitations.

  4. Be conversant with interface designs to P&C and OHL’s points of connection.

  5. Be conversant with National Grid TS’s / TP’s / DH’s / CH’s and the TP141 / 106 Process (i.e DID writing & review).

  6. Demonstrate a knowledge of relevant software packages (Math CAD, CymCap, Solidworks), and be able to use such.

  7. Working knowledge of AutoCad.

  8. Good problem solving skills and an analytical approach to Cable Design, fault finding and innovation.

  9. Exposure to P&C and OHL’s would be a clear advantage.

  10. Working knowledge of Cable Installation, Civil Works (related too), and methods of encasement etc etc etc.

  11. Be able to direct a small but highly skilled team of Engineers, from graduate to seasoned professionals.

  12. Demonstrate a knowledge of the formulation of BoQ’s.

  13. Have a working knowledge of the global Cable Manufacturers, and up-to date contacts.

  14. Be client facing, and able to talk in a knowledgeable and authoritative manner.

  15. Articulate, good at honing a design into a client based presentation.

Additional information:


•Responsible for preparing cable system design and specifications and tender documentation, coordination with cable and accessories manufacturers, and providing technical support.

•Able to assess relevance of technical information presented and prioritise tasks appropriately.

•To identify and design fully compliant EHV cable system solutions to meet client requirements, by being familiar with all electro-technical aspects of cables, accessories and installations.

•To prepare and supply appropriate design packs containing all relevant system information for bid submission - attention to detail is an essential element.

•To prepare technical marketing material, to train and inform staff

•To liaise with suppliers and clients to ensure that the latest technical information is held and to acquire relevant knowledge of future developments, to adapt internal procedures ensure conformance with national and international standards.

•To work with external contractors and consultants when required

•Responsible for preparing cable system design and specifications and tender documentation, coordination with cable and accessories manufacturers, and providing technical support.

•A high level of competency with Microsoft Office based software, AutoCAD and a working knowledge with other specialised calculating and simulation software, (Sketch up, Mathcad, Cymcap, Solid Works, MS Project and Visio applications).

•The incumbent must be a good team player, and capable of working unsupervised, by prioritising their workload, to achieve timely objectives and were necessary, able to lead, coordinate and monitor operational site project teams and their electrical based activities.

•Although based London, visits to other sites in the country will be required, so you will require a full, clean driving license. There will also be occasional overseas travel
